189 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca STEVENSON, Clifford Archibald “Cliff” WWII Cliff was born on February 3, 1922, to Robert and Cora (McCorriston) Stevenson in Clarion Station, Quebec. He became the son and stepson of Cora and Harvey Murdoch of Franklin, Manitoba when his mother remarried in 1929. He received his education in Franklin. Cliff enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and served in both Canada and overseas. He received the France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. After the war, he lived in Montreal with his partner, Betty Sheldon, returning to Manitoba in the 1980s. Cliff passed away on January 27, 2004, in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Lot 6, Block 11, Range 12. STEVENSON, Lawrence Ellwood WWII Lawrence was born on October 11, 1914, to Robert and Cora (McCorriston) Stevenson in Portage du Fort, Quebec. His mother remarried to Harvey Murdock in 1929 and the family lived and farmed in Franklin, Manitoba. Lawrence enlisted and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. He passed away on May 17, 1952, at the age of 35 in a car accident. Lawrence was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Manitoba, Lot 6, Plot 11, Range 12. STEVENSON, Robert John WWII Robert was born on July 31, 1918, to Robert and Cora (McCorriston) Stevenson in Kindersley, Saskatchewan. His mother remarried in 1929 to Harvey Murdock and they lived and farmed in Franklin, Manitoba. Robert worked for his stepfather on the farm until joining the army. He enlisted on March 28, 1941 and served with the 10th District Depot, 10th Armoured Regiment of the Fort Garry Horse. He was killed on June 6, 1944 at the D-Day invasion. Robert was buried at Beny-sur-Mer Canadian Miliary Cemetery in Beny-sur-Mer, France, Grave 2, Row H, Plot 1. He is commemorated on the back of his brother’s gravestone in Neepawa’s Riverside Cemetery, Lot 6, Block 11, Range 12. Stevenson Rapids (64 I/9) in the North Knife River was named after him in 1995.
