179 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca SHINETON, H. Harry WWI Harry was born in Stottesdon, Much Wenlock, Shropshire, England on November 16, 1884. He served in the British Army during World War I and was at Vimy Ridge in France for four years. In World War II, he was a part of Canada Service Veterans Guard. In 1919, he was Gamekeeper at Childs Estate and went to Highley Village as an explosive expert at Kinlet Mines. In April 1928, he arrived in Norgate, Manitoba and married Sofia Olson of Ambjörby, Värmland County, Sweden. The family of five came to Manitoba. Harry passed away on August 30, 1974, and he is buried in Kinlet, Shropshire, England. SHINETON, John Olaf Henry WWII John was born in Kinlet, Shropshire, England on December 6, 1915. He joined the military in 1939 and served with the Fort Garry Horse in France where he was wounded, Holland, Belgium and Germany during World War II. John married Mary Trobe Olson in Blyth, Northumberland in 1943. They had three children, Barrie, Susan and Linda. John passed away on April 10, 1989, and is buried at McCreary Cemetery. SHINETON, William Edward WWII William was born in Kinlet, Shropshire, England on July 23, 1920. He enlisted in army in 1940 and served with the Fort Garry Horse 10C Army Tank Regiment ‘B’ Squadron. He was killed in the battle for Carpiquet airstrip on July 4, 1944, at the age of 23. He was married to Betty Stephney in Worthing, England. They had one son, Edward. Edward works in Margaret, Manitoba at Thatcher’s Estate as Forestry Supervisor. He is commemorated at Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery in Calvados, France. Shineton Creek (63 N/2), which flows northwest into Limestone Creek was named after him in 1972.
