163 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca POOLE, Carman Ralph WWII Carman was born on July 27, 1910, to Nesbitt and Mary (McCracken) Poole in Neepawa, Manitoba. He spent his early years in Kelwood where he attended school. He married Helen McCracken in 1940 and in 1941, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy. He served in Fredericton on Corvette Fairmile (sub chaser) and on the Floating Dry Dock. After the war, he returned to Kelwood to farm. He was president of The Royal Canadian Legion Kelwood Branch for a number of years and was made an Honourary Member. Carman passed away on February 21, 2004 in Neepawa and was buried at Riverside Cemetery. POOLE, Elmer James WWII Elmer was born on July 5, 1922, to Walter and Elizabeth Poole in the Springhill District, northwest of Neepawa. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served until his honourable discharge in 1945. When he returned from the war, his family relocated to Oberon, south of Neepawa. He and his brother, Arnold, farmed together. Elmer married Norma Fraser in 1950 and they remained there until 1974 when he and Arnold sold the farm. Elmer and Norma moved to Brandon to live until 1982 when they returned to Neepawa. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 and was president in 19721973. Elmer passed away on August 24, 1995, in Neepawa and was buried at Riverside Cemetery. POOLE, Lloyd Timothy WWII Lloyd enlisted on his 21st birthday, September 21, 1939, at the outbreak of World War II. He served with the Grenadiers in Jamaica and was held as a prisoner of war in Hong Kong. Lloyd sang in the choir of the United church and played in the Kelwood Orchestra. His father lived in McCreary. Lloyd, at the age of 31, was accidentally killed while working with a construction company in Canmore, Alberta. He is buried in the Kelwood, Manitoba cemetery.
