159 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca PASOWYSTY, Josephine WWII Josephine was born on June 10, 1922, to Russell William and Mary (Natkowski) Pasowysty in Eden, Manitoba. She enlisted with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in June 1942 and served in the Records Department at District Head Office in Winnipeg attaining the rank of Corporal. Her brothers, Peter and Anthony, also served in World War II. Josephine married Glen Philips and lived in St. Thomas, Ontario. She passed away on December 3, 2009 in St. Thomas. PASOWYSTY, Peter John WWII Peter was born on August 6, 1915, to Russell William and Mary (Natkowski) Pasowysty at Elk Ranch, Manitoba. He enlisted in Portage la Prairie on May 15, 1942 and was posted overseas in December 1942 with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He was serving in the Mediterranean area. Peter was wounded in May 1944 and after recovering he returned to the battlefields of Italy. It was there that he was killed in action on September 20, 1944. He is buried at the Coriano Ridge War Cemetery in Riccione, Italy (101-111 MR 915909 Grave 4, PPCLI Section). Pasowysty Lake (64 0/4) northeast of Egenolf Lake is named after him. PATERSON, William James WWI &WWII William was born on July 2, 1896, to John and Alice (Talbot) Paterson in Westmount, Quebec. He spent the majority of his adult life farming in Lansdowne (Arden), Manitoba. In March 1915, when he was eighteen years old, William enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force. He was assigned to the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and sent overseas to England in June. By July, he was sent to France to fight. On June 2, 1916, William was wounded and taken prisoner of war. He spent the remainder of his time between POW camps and hospitals. He received his discharge on May 16, 1919 and was sent home to Canada. After studying agriculture in Montreal, he headed west to Lansdowne, Manitoba and, using his Soldier’s Settlement, purchased a farm.William married Margaret (Daisy) Grant on January 19, 1926 in Winnipeg and they returned to farm in Lansdowne. When World War II broke out, William again enlisted on April 24, 1941. He served on the Veterans’ Guard until 1947. When the war ended in 1945, he was responsible for taking the German prisoners back to Germany. William passed away on February 9, 1962 and was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa.
