125 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca LARGE, Robert James WWII Robert was born on January 18, 1921, to Walter and Zella Large in Riding Mountain. Manitoba. He was educated at Tobormore School. Bob worked at home on various farms and did bush work. Bob joined the 12th Manitoba Dragoons in 1941. He served in the Armed Forces for four-anda-half years in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. His parents received a letter from Bob, who was wounded in action in Holland on January 10, 1945, saying he was doing fine. He was later attached to the 8th Recc Regiment and was discharged in 1946. Bob and his brother Ed moved to Fort St. John, BC in 1949 and he farmed there until the time of his death on August 16, 1997. Bob was a long-time active member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Fort St. John. LINDSAY, Stuart Ross “Stu” WWII Stu was born on September 1, 1918, in the RM of Rosedale to John and Mabel (Coates) Lindsay. Stuart was raised on a farm NE ¼ 18-15-15 and educated at the Mountain View School. Stuart worked on the farm until enlisting for service. He worked on the fire rescue team after training in Trenton, Ontario. He was dedicated to the Air Force and was honourably discharged in 1946. Stuart married Dorothy Harding of Eden in 1943, and they had a family of two daughters, Norma born in 1945 and Barbara born in 1954. Stu worked in the Ogilvie Elevator in Minnedosa from 1945 to 1948 and then moved back to Neepawa to deliver bread for Hurrell’s Bakery with a horse and wagon from 1948 to 1954. He then worked in the Land Titles Office for the next 23 years. For many years, Stu was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Royal Canadian Legion. Stu passed away on January 7, 2006. LINK, Clarence Oliver WWII Clarence was born on January 27, 1925, at Humerston Siding, Manitoba, the son of Arthur and Irene Link. He received his early education there and in Birnie, Manitoba where he also lived before moving to Neepawa where he was employed at the Neepawa Salt Plant. He joined the Canadian National Railway in 1948 and retired from his position as a section man in 1979. Clarence served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in 1943 and married his wife, Geesje Elkerbout on June 5, 1946, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for 34 years. Clarence passed away on March 2, 1985.
