123 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca KRUZER, Alexander David “Alex” Korean War Alex was born on November 30, 1932, in Neepawa, Manitoba, to David and Victorine Kruzer. He lived in the Neepawa area all his life, spending some time overseas in the Korean War. He returned in 1955 and met and married Dorothy Lough in 1957. Alex worked various jobs before owning and operating his own backhoe business. During that time, he built four homes in the Hallboro area. He also enjoyed fishing, watching wildlife and spending time with his grandchildren. Alex passed away on March 9, 2003, and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Lot 15, Block 3, Range 28. KULSHISKI, Frank John WWII Frank was born on July 1, 1923, in Arden, Manitoba, the son of Nickolas and Karoline (Buksovich) Kulshiski. He joined the army in Winnipeg on June 13, 1941, at the age of seventeen and returned home in 1945. Frank served with the RCA Heavy Anti-Aircraft Troop E in Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, and Belgium until his discharge in Winnipeg on October 25, 1945. Frank married Doris Riddick in 1948 and they had three children, Norma, Barry and Murray. Frank worked in the construction industry, so therefore lived in different places of Flin Flon, Dauphin and Brandon and resided in Arden in 1984. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for 58 years. Frank passed away on April 26, 2005. LARGE, Richard Walter WWII Richard was born on October 19, 1922, near the town of Riding Mountain, Manitoba, to Walter and Zella (Gunson). He attended Tobomore School and worked during his youth at road construction, in lumber camps and for many farmers. Richard joined the Canadian Army on October 16, 1941, in Winnipeg and trained there as well as Camp Borden, Ontario and Windsor and Debert, Nova Scotia. He travelled on the SS Aquitania and served in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe with the Armoured Corps Reserve Unit and the 10th Canadian Armoured Tank Regiment as tank operator. After returning to Canada in 1945 and his discharge in February 1946, he returned to Manitoba to work in lumber camps and mines. On July 22, 1948, he married Phyllis Darlene Hellen. They lived in the Birnie district where Richard farmed with his father for six years. During that time, he also continued working various jobs in mining and oil rigs. Richard and Phyllis purchased a farm in the Glendale district in 1958 where they resided until 1967 when Richard’s health forced him to retire. They then moved to Minnedosa and later to Brandon. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kelwood Branch for 66 years. Richard passed away on June 5, 2012.
