117 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca KERR, Frederick Howard WWI Frederick was born in 1896 in Neepawa, to John Kerr, Merchant. Fred served in England and in France with the 31st and 196th Battalions. He returned to Canada in 1919 and co-owned John Kerr & Co. Ltd. and Neepawa Realty Co. Ltd. with his brother. He married Irene McHale in 1927 and died in Neepawa on November 13, 1962. KERR, James Henry WWI James was born in 1891 to Mr. and Mrs. John Kerr, merchant, in Neepawa. He served with the Seaforth Highlanders which was sent overseas as the 72nd Battalion, one of the 1st Canadian troops sent to Europe. He was sent overseas as a 1st Lieutenant which indicates that he had some prior military training. J.H. Kerr died on January 25, 1933, as a result of wounds which he had received in the war. KERR, Oscar Rowland WWI Oscar enlisted in November 1914 in the 32nd Battalion and got to France in April 1915. He was in the trenches up to February 9, 1916, when a call was made for volunteers to put a tube of explosives under the German wire. Oscar and three other brave young lads undertook the job but were discovered by the Germans who sent up a flare. He was shot through the thigh and died two days later. His body is buried at Bailleul, France, but the influence of his courage and self-sacrifice will never die.
