101 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca GREEN, Albert Raymond WWII Albert was born on May 2, 1911, to Robert and Viola (McKague) Green in Neepawa, Manitoba. As a young boy, his family moved to Winnipeg where he graduated from high school. He married Jenie Linnea Carlstrom in December 1934 and was working as a stock keeper at Ford Motors when the war broke out. On September 7, 1939, Albert enlisted with the 1st Battalion of the Winnipeg Grenadiers. He served in both Jamaica and Hong Kong. It was in Hong Kong on December 25, 1941, that he was wounded and taken prisoner of war. Albert was severely wounded and passed away from his wounds on February 24, 1942. He is buried in Sai Wan War Cemetery in Hong Kong. (Plot VIII B 24). Green Point (64/5 on Legary Lake was named after him in 1995- A Place of Honour). GREENHALGH, Walter WWII Walter was born in 1920. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1945. He married Erma Shaw in 1941. After 1945, they raised their family in Neepawa, Manitoba. Walter operated the Arcade Dance Hall and also had the Apex Music Service in Neepawa. Walter passed away in 1979 in Neepawa. HART, Gerald Charles WWII Gerald was born in Neepawa, the son of Charles and Emily Hart, on January 29, 1917. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and received his training in Winnipeg and Ottawa. He was posted overseas in May 1940, where he received his wings and became a member of the Moose Squadron. He was in the raid on Osnabuck and the 3000mile raids on Cologne and Bremen. Gerald and the crew of No. X3711 Wellington Aircraft – No. 419 Moose Jaw Squadron were shot on September 3, 1942, six miles northwest of Dinant during an attack against Karlsruhe, Germany. W/C Archibald Walsh (DFC and AFC) was the commanding officer, flying his 29th operational flight. He is commemorated at the Warnant Communal Cemetery in Anbee, Namur, Belgium. Hart Island (53 M/12) in Diana Lake was named after him in 1985.
