91 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HUNTER, Wellington Douglas “Wally” WWII Wally was born on August 16, 1918, in Neepawa, Manitoba, son of Walter Hunter and Isabel Buchanan.Wally served as a Private with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. He was captured at Dieppe on August 19, 1942 and held prisoner of war at Stalag VII B in Germany for two years and eight months. After the war, he worked as a carpenter for the CNR for 29 years until his retirement in 1978. He married Marjorie Stockley in Winnipeg in 1953. Wally died on March 26, 1994 in Winnipeg. HURRELL, Dennis Campbell WWII Dennis was born on February 2, 1925, to Robert and Annie (Smith) Hurrell of Arden. He enlisted in the Army on January 18, 1943 and served in World War II with the Royal Canadian Engineers. He received his discharge on June 18, 1946 and married Kathleen Kolesar. He apprenticed at Dalton Plumbing and Heating for five years and then in 1952, he bought Walt Mathew’s business, which ran until 1979. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for forty years. Dennis passed away on June 11, 2013 in Neepawa and was buried at Riverside Cemetery. HURRELL, Glen F. WWII Glen was born about 1926 to Robert Hurrell and Annie Smith. He enlisted in World War II with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserves and served aboard the HMCS Fairmile 88, HMCS Bordercity and HMCS Iroquois as an Able Seaman AA3. Glen received the North Atlantic Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. After his discharge, he worked in the plumbing and heating business in Flin Flon, Manitoba and was a plumbing inspector in Wainwright, Alberta; Vernon and Victoria, British Columbia. He married Stella and retired in Victoria, British Columbia. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Neepawa. Glen passed away on September 21, 2009.
