89 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HUNTER, Hiram James WWII Hiram was born in October 1917 to Walter Hunter and Hannah Monberg of Brookdale, Manitoba. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in June 1941 in Brandon, Manitoba. While serving in England as a mechanic, in 1944, Lance Corporal Hiram Hunter met and married Joan Phillips. They returned to the area in 1946, with their son, Barry. They had two more children, Allan and Pamela. Their family remained in the area where Hiram worked for the railroad. He later worked as a mechanic for both Bill Whitmore and Don Flatt. Hiram died on April 11, 1993 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Manitoba. HUNTER, Orville Kitchener WWII Orville was born in 1915 to Norman and Hannah (Monberg) Hunter in Brookdale. He went to Northern Saskatchewan to work until the war broke out. In 1942, he enlisted with the Tank Corps and took his basic training at Brantford, Ontario. Orville was wounded and reported missing in June 1944. He married Peggy Jones in 1945 and they went to Dryden, Ontario where they lived for many years. They then returned to farm north of Neepawa. He passed away on August 8, 2008 in Neepawa and was buried at Brookdale Cemetery in Brookdale, Block 13, Lot 5N, N1/2 south side. HUNTER, W. Graham WWII Graham was born in Neepawa, Manitoba on April 25, 1925, to George and Elizabeth (Graham) Hunter. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 23, 1943 and was posted to Edmonton, Winnipeg, and many different places in Canada. His last post was Goose Bay, Labrador. Graham was discharged on October 3, 1946 and returned to his farm just east of Neepawa. He married May Walker in 1947. Graham passed away on April 1, 2005 and was buried at the Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa.
