85 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca HODGKINSON, Fred WWI &WWII Private Fred Hodgkinson came to Canada on May 17, 1904, at the age of fifteen. He enlisted in the Army on December 12, 1914 and served at Vimy Ridge with 32nd Battalion, CEF. He married Mary Fitzpatrick in April 1918 and received his discharge in February 1919. After World War I, Fred returned to Kelwood, Manitoba. He joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers Reserve in World War II. Fred retired to Vancouver, BC in later years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Kelwood, MB. Fred passed away on June 4, 1972 at Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg. HOLMES, Glenn Hammond WWII Glenn was born in Neepawa, Manitoba on April 25, 1918. He was a part of the NRMA from November 22, 1941 to December 21, 1941. He enlisted in the Army on January 29, 1942 in Winnipeg and served as a Private in England, France and Belgium with the RCOC during World War II. He was discharged on January 30, 1946 in Winnipeg. For his service, he received the France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Glenn passed away on January 7, 1999. HONOUR, Anna Mary WWII Anna was born on August 8, 1914, to John and Mary (Johnson) Honour at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England. The family came to Kelwood, Manitoba from England in 1928. Mary enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division on November 2, 1942 and served until 1945. She was stationed at Gander, Newfoundland; Dauphin and Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the first Kelwood girl to join the W.A.A.F. In 1946, Mary joined the MTS in Kelwood and was appointed Chief Operator in 1951. She held this position until 1970 when she retired. She was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Kelwood Branch 50. Mary passed away on February 16, 2000 and is buried in Kelwood Cemetery.
