59 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca DEVESON, George Ewart WWII George was born in Inkerman District, Manitoba on December 1, 1922, to George and Verna (Drysdale) Deveson. He received his education both there and in Neepawa. He worked at farming after school. In 1943, Ewart enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was assigned to the Construction and Maintenance Crew. LAC Deveson worked on building a landing field at Baker Lake (about 400 miles north of Churchill) in the NWT, among other projects. After his discharge, George returned to Neepawa and married Doreen White. He worked for Hares Cartage, the Legion Hall and as an ice maker at the local curling rink. Ewart passed away on April 20, 1987 and was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. DEVESON, Peter Alexander WWII Peter was born on November 22, 1920, to George and Verna (Drysdale) Deveson in Neepawa, Manitoba. He spent most of his life with his uncle and aunt, R.J. and Calista Drysdale, in Inkerman, Manitoba. In March 1942, he joined the 27th Anti-Aircraft Artillery as a Private. He was stationed in Halifax and Vancouver Island before his discharge in 1945. Peter returned to the Inkerman area and to the farm. He owned and worked his grandfather Drysdale’s farm. He passed away on November 10, 2014 and was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Lot 8, Block 11, Range 26. DEWART (ROE), Margaret Charvelle WWII Margaret was born on March 6, 1918, to John and Harriet Roe in Neepawa. She completed her nurses’ training in Winnipeg in 1941. Margaret joined the Second World War and served overseas as an RN in the Royal Canadian Medical Corps from 1944 to 1945. She served in England, Italy, and the Netherlands. After the war was over, Margaret married Jack Dewart and together they made several moves across Canada and the United States, finally settling in Edmonton, Alberta in 1967. She passed away on April 28, 2009 and was buried in Arden Cemetery, just east of Neepawa, but she is also memorialized on her husband’s gravestone in Edmonton.
