125 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca MABLEY, Richard Lawson WWII LAC Richard Mabley, born in 1909, served in the Air Force during World War II. Richard passed away on January 5, 1958 and is buried in the Kelwood Cemetery. MAJURY, William Murray WWII William was born in Riding Mountain, Manitoba on August 29, 1924, and went to school there completing his grade 10 education, then moving to Amaranth, Manitoba with his parents when he was sixteen years old. His interest was in western music and his sport was basketball. William enlisted in the Army and served with the Essex Scottish Regiment during World War II. Private William Majury was killed on October 5, 1944, at the age of twenty and is buried at Bergen-op-Zoom Canadian War Cemetery in Holland. He was the son of Jack H. and Alice V. Majury of Amaranth, MB. Majury Lake (64 H/12) east of Southern Indian Lake was named after him in 1963. MARKLE, Jack Wellington WWII Jack was born on March 7, 1915, in Shoal Lake, Manitoba, the son of Mervyn and Lydia Markle. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg on October 16, 1940. He was with 408 Goose Squadron as Flight Sergeant (pilot) when he was lost on a mission over Germany in a Hampden bomber on May 9, 1942. He had eleven siblings, six of who all served in the armed forces of Canada. One other brother, Orin, was also lost while on a bombing mission over Germany. He is commemorated on the Berlin 1939-1945 War Memorial and the Shoal Lake Cenotaph.
