123 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LEE (SIMPSON), Ida Frances WWII Ida was born on August 2, 1922, to Sid and Flo Simpson in Rivers, Manitoba. The family moved to Transcona in 1927, and she received her schooling there, later attending Angus School of Commerce in Winnipeg. In 1942, Ida joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (Women’s Division) where she trained at the Bomb and Gunnery School near Belleville, Ontario. She served in the administration section from May 1942 until September 1945 in Belleville, and she received her discharge in 1946. Ida and her husband, Dudley Lee, were married in 1948 and lived in Basswood, Manitoba until 1956 when they relocated to Neepawa. Ida passed away on December 3, 1987. She willed her remains for medical research and her memorial is at Riverside Cemetery. She was buried on May 26, 1989, by the Health Science Centre at Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. MABLEY, Gerald Kitchener WWII Gerald was born and raised in Kelwood, Manitoba where he was also educated. He joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers in 1939. Private Gerald Mabley served in Jamaica before being sent to Hong Kong. He was held prisoner of war for three years and eight months. On his return, he joined the Winnipeg Land Title Office. Gerald married his wife in October 1941. Jerry possessed literary ability and was an enthusiastic hockey and tennis player. He was a member of the United Church. He retired to Victoria, BC in 1974. Gerald passed away on March 17, 1999. MABLEY, Harry Garnett Earle WWII Harry enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force from Lethbridge in the spring of 1940. He trained at St. Thomas and was stationed at McLeod, Alberta during World War II. He was also at No. 8 Repair Depot in Winnipeg. He was a member of the United Church. Harry passed away on August 20, 1973.
