He was a flying officer J11986 from Shoal Lake, MB. He served with 200 Squadron Royal Canadian Air Force. His Hudson aircraft was lost without a trace off Port Etienne, French West Africa. He was the son of Captain Henry William and Flora Johnston. He was survived by his wife Hilda and daughter Faith Johnston. Percy was 31 years old and is commemorated on the Malta Memorial, Royal Bank Roll of Honour, Shoal Lake War Memorial and on a plaque in the St. Pauls Anglican Church in Shoal Lake. JOHNSTONE, Jack K. WWII Jack was born on May 12, 1921, in Neepawa, Manitoba. He attended Central School and NCI Commercial Course, graduating in 1938. Jack enlisted on April 3, 1942 with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps. He served as a Lance Corporal in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland with 67 LAD attached to the 7th Anti-Tank Regiment. He returned to Canada in 1945 and was discharged on February 12, 1946. Jack was married to Velma and continued to live in the Neepawa area. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for fifty years and was Secretary-Treasurer of the branch for many years. JOSLAND, Wilfred Walter Arthur WWII Arthur, born in 1921, joined the Army in June 1941, at the same time as Rudy Hendrickson of Clanwilliam. They drove to Winnipeg in Rudy’s old Durant car. Both joined the RCASC and were assigned to the Fouth Division. The two friends spent six weeks training in Winnipeg and then were sent to Vancouver for further training. In August 1942, Arthur was posted overseas and from February 1943 until his death, he saw active service in Italy. Before leaving for Italy, he and Rudy met for the last time, while Arthur was on embarkation leave. Early in December 1944, Arthur wrote a letter to Rudy from Italy saying that he was fine and wished Rudy a merry Christmas. Shortly afterwards, Arthur’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wifred Josland, were notified that he had been killed in action in Italy at the age of 23. Private Wilfred Josland was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Defence of Britain Medal, Italy Star, 1939-1945 Star and War Medal 1939-1945.
