97 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca CRAIG, Russell Wilford WWII Russell was born on September 23, 1925, in Ridgeville, Manitoba. He moved to Franklin at the age of six months to live with his aunt, Margaret Petch. They moved to Neepawa when he was nine years old. Russell joined the army in Winnipeg on May 5, 1944 and served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He was sent overseas to the United Kingdom and northwest Europe. Private Russell Craig was discharged in Winnipeg on April 11, 1946 at No. 10 Manning Depot in Winnipeg. He received the France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and War Medal 1939-1945. Russell worked at the Liquor Commission from 1952 to 1974 when he retired as store manager. He then worked at the Neepawa Land Titles Office for the next twelve years and retired in 1989. Russell married his wife, Audrey Harding, in 1949. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for 46 years from 1951 to 1997. Russell passed away on March 16, 1997 in Neepawa and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Lot 29, Block 5, Range 11A. CROSSON, Al A. WWII Al was born in Readlyn, Saskatchewan in 1922. He enlisted in the Air Force and served with the Iroquois Squadron in England during World War II. He received the France and Germany Star, George the VI Medal, Defence Medal, 75 years Legion Medal, Battle for Britain Medal. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for 28 years and was Branch President from 1990 to 1992. Al passed away in 2002. DAGG, Merv J. PEACETIME Merv was born in Neepawa, Manitoba on October 15, 1932. He enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg on June 8, 1955 and served as a Signalman with the RCSS in Canada until his discharge on August 30, 1955 in Winnipeg. He married Mildred. Merv is a 68-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23.
