He enlisted in the army in Winnipeg on September 19, 1942 and served with the Seaforth Highlanders in England, North Africa, Italy, and Northwest Europe during World War II. He was discharged in Winnipeg on November 23, 1945. Norm received the Italy Star, 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for 41 years from 1954 to 1995. Norm passed away on April 11, 1995. CHEETHAM, Preston WWII Preston was born in Neepawa on May 27, 1913. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in the United Kingdom, Africa, Italy, France, and Germany during World War II. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Africa Star, France and Germany Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and 1939-1945 Star. He was married to Vidah Kellough. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for two years from 1963 to 1965. Preston passed away on September 25, 1965. CHEMERIKA, Samuel “Sam” WWII Sam was born on August 28, 1921, to Nicolas and Annie (Woywada) Chemerika in Rosedale Municipality, Manitoba. He married his wife, Mary Kostenchuk, in 1942 at Mountain Road, Manitoba. In 1943, he was drafted into the Army. Private Samuel Chemerika served with the 46th Artillery Division in Halifax, Nova Scotia and then with the 56th Infantry Battalion when he was sent overseas. He fought in Groningen, Holland (Liberator of the Netherlands). After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Canada and farmed in the Clanwilliam area. Sam passed away on January 10, 2015 in Neepawa. His wife is buried at Mountain Road Cemetery.
