73 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BRISTOW, Harold W. WWII Harold was born in Kelwood, Manitoba on February 10, 1919, to Harold and Nellie Bristow. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in June 1941 in Winnipeg and received his wings at Yorkton on June 18, 1942. After his discharge, Flying Officer Harold Bristow returned home to Kelwood. He married Olive Buchanan of Kelwood and they resided in Virden. He was an instructor at E.F.T.S. No. 11 Virden. Harold passed away on February 20, 1993, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. BROUGH, Art WWI Art enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg in April 1915 and served with 44th Battalion in France and in Germany during World War I. He was discharged in Winnipeg in May 1919. Art was married to Dorothy. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. BROUGH, William Edward “Eddie” WWII Eddie was born on May 9, 1920, to Art and Dorothy Brough of Neepawa, Manitoba. He received his education there and later worked at Ashby’s Market Garden. On September 9, 1939, he enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg and was sent overseas in December 1940. Private Eddie Brough served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in Canada, England and northwest Europe. Eddie took part in the Dieppe raid on August 9, 1942 and was taken prisoner and held in the German POW camp Stalag VIII B. In May 1945, he was released and returned to England after being held prisoner for over two years. His discharge came in August 1945 and he returned to Canada. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal 1939-1945, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 Star, and France and Germany Star. Eddie and his wife, Doris Walker, were married in December 1939 before he was sent overseas. Eddie worked for the C.N.R. from September 1945 until April 1961. He was later remarried to Grace Guyot. He was a fifty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Eddie passed away on October 4, 1995 and is buried in the military section of Riverside Cemetery Neepawa.
