He enlisted in the Army on April 1, 1915 and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 2nd Engineers, Signals, 4CLB in Belgium, France and Germany during World War I. Corporal George Blackwell was discharged in Winnipeg on May 31, 1919. He received the 1914-1915 Star, General Service Medal, Victory Medal and 1914-1918 Medal. He was a member of Shrine, Masons, charter member of Lions, Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23, Hospital Board, Presbyterian Church, School Board Chair, and Sunday School Superintendent. He married Lillian E. Blackwell. George passed away on July 9, 1960. BLACKWELL, Henry Westbrook WWII Henry was born on November 24, 1913, to George and Mary Maud (Sirett) Blackwell in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His parents were from Langford Municipality near Neepawa. At an early age, the family moved to Stony Mountain, Manitoba. Henry received his education there and at Darlingford, Elkhorn and Transcona (Winnipeg). He worked as an insulating contractor after finishing school. Henry enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in October 1940 and was shipped overseas in June 1941. He was serving as a Wireless Op/Air Gunner Sgt and was shot down as he was returning to Scotland from a mission over Europe. Henry tried to bring his bomber down but was unable to. His crew had escaped by parachuting out. He died on November 26, 1941 and is buried in Kinloss Abbey Burial Ground (Military Cemetery) in Moray, Scotland (Grave 20, Row A). Blackwell Lake (64 H/9), northwest of Freeman Lake was named after him in 1995. BLOOMFIELD, Ralph Wharton WWII Ralph was born in England on January 12, 1907. He enlisted in the Army in Portage la Prairie on October 29, 1942 and served on various staff in Canada during World War II. Captain Ralph Bloomfield was discharged in Winnipeg on August 31, 1945. He and his wife Evelyn had one daughter, Ethel, and one son, Ralph. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Flin Flon Branch 73.
