He enlisted in the Army and served with 12 Manitoba Dragoons in Canada during peacetime. Bonner is a sixty-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. BIRNIE, Jean Ellen PEACETIME Jean was born in Neepawa, Manitoba in 1950. She was involved in music, sports, 4-H, Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT) and was selected as a centennial exchange student. Graduating from NACI in 1968, she moved to Winnipeg and worked for Manitoba Hydro. During the fall of 1969, she moved to Yellowknife, NWT to work for the Government of the Northwest Territories until the fall of 1971, when she left to tour Europe. Upon her return in 1972, she settled in Edmonton, AB working for Superior Steel Desk Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and when they opened a new branch in Winnipeg, in spring of 1974, she moved back to Winnipeg. Jean enrolled in the military with the air reserves on May 7, 1974 and in the fall left Superior Steel Desk and worked full time with the military until October 1976. At this time, she continued part time with the military and worked for Health and Welfare Canada Medical Services South Zone until she went back to being in the military full time. She was at 1 Canadian Air Division, 17 Wing, Winnipeg, Manitoba. She attained the rank of Master Warrant Officer and awarded with the Canadian Forces Decoration 2nd Clasp Medal, United Nations Emergency Forces II Medal, 125th Anniversary Medal and Canadian Forces Peacekeeping Service Medal. She did a tour in Egypt and did temporary duties in Europe, most parts of Canada including the Territories, The Dewline, and numerous other countries. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Jean passed away in 2021.
