267 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca WALLACE, Everett WWII Everett, son of Arthur and Georgina (MacKay), was born October 31, 1921 on the family farm north of Kenton, MB. He was eldest, followed by brother Robert, and sisters Laura and Shirley. Everett grew up Kenton, then enlisted November 1941, Royal Canadian Air force, following father Arthur’s WWI service in Canadian Air Force (became RCAF 1924). He trained in Brandon, MB as a Wireless Air Gunner and served in England, North Africa and Mediterranean Regions on a Halifax Bomber. Everett earned 1939-1945, Africa, Italy stars, Defence, Canadian Service Volunteer (with Bomber Command Bar), and War 1939-1945 Medals, Wireless Gunners Badge, and Squadron and Sharpshooter Award. He attained the rank of Flying Officer. Following discharge and return home, Everett farmed, then married Joy Woolfit of Reston, MB, in 1949. They had three children: Donald, Deanna, and Lauree. After farming a few years, they moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan. They opened a paint and decorating business. Later they moved to Oxbow, Saskatchewan. Everett was Maintenance Foreman for the School Division, before losing battle with cancer on August 31, 1965. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery near Kenton. WAREHAM, Arthur Francis “Art” WWII Art was born on January 7, 1926, to Frank and Edna Wareham in Neepawa. When World War II broke out, he went to work as a carpenters’ helper at the Neepawa Airport. Arthur soon enlisted in the army in July 1944 and spent the next three years stationed at various different bases – Fort Garry, Shilo, #3 Wireless Tuxedo, MacDonald (American training for the Pacific), Vernon, BC (N.C.C. training). After joining the paratroopers and getting his wings, (AirBorne Canada), he volunteered for the Japanese area. However, after taking further training, they never did go overseas. Corporal Arthur Wareham then took his discharge in October 1946. Art married Dorothy Zerkie in Neepawa on June 1, 1949. He worked at several different things over the next many years – Whitmore’s Farm Equipment, Agristeel Ltd, and finishing off his career at the Beautiful Plains School Division as a bus driver and instructor. Art was also very involved with his community – working with The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23, the Boy Scout Organization, and with the EMO in town. Arthur passed away on February 24, 2017 and was buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Lot 12, Block 3, Range 16. WAREHAM, Frank WWI Frank was born in Sussex, Hastings, England on September 19, 1883. He enlisted in the Army in 1916 and served in Britain, France, and Belgium during World War I. Private Frank Wareham was badly wounded in September 1916 and was hospitalized. He married Edna Rogers in 1925. He retired in 1964 and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Frank passed away on December 10, 1984.
