265 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca VEALE, Jack Edwin WWII Jack was born on July 14, 1926, to Richmond (Sonny) and Esther (Crabbe) Veale in Neepawa, Manitoba. He attended Stoney Creek School as well as Neepawa Collegiate and worked at #35 E.F.T.S. in Neepawa from 1942 to 1944. Jack enlisted in the Royal Canadian Volunteer Reserve Corps on April 5, 1944 and took his training in Winnipeg. He was then sent to Halifax where he was assigned to the Corvette HMCS Cobalt K-124. He received his discharge on June 19, 1946. Jack married Lorna Eamer in 1947 and went to work at the Neepawa Land Titles Office in Neepawa two years later. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Jack passed away on February 1, 2014 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. VINTHERS, Louie Thompson WWII Louie was born on April 4, 1912, to Jack and Matilda Vinthers in Brookdale, Manitoba. He worked many different jobs before the war broke out, construction, farming, as a teamster for a timber company and in the Beren River Mines in Ontario. Louie enlisted in the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps (Tank Corps) and took his basic training in Winnipeg. It was there that he met and married his wife Irene Owens on January 27, 1945. He was stationed at Camp Borden until he returned to farm at Ingelow after his discharge from the army in January 1946. In 1947, Louie moved his family to Brookdale where they farmed until 1963-1964. He was forced to quit active farming due to ill health, but continued to work at various other jobs until his retirement in 1977. Louie passed away on August 30, 1978, at Brandon Hospital and was buried in the Brookdale Cemetery. VIVIAN, George WWII George was born in Winnipeg on January 8, 1916. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg in May 1940. He served as an observer doing two tours with Squadron 240, and served in Ceylon with 413 Squadron, Flying Boat Squadron in Scotland in 1941, and Canadian Flying Boats in Ceylon in 1942. He was discharged on January 11, 1945. After the war, George played hockey in California. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for thirty years. George passed away on October 10, 1974.
