263 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca THOMAS, Roy Richard WWII Roy was born about 1920 to George and Beatrice (Taylor) in Neepawa, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy at HMCS Chippawa on September 9, 1943 and served as an Able Seaman in the North Atlantic, English Channel and on convoys in the United Kingdom and Russia on the Loch Alvie during World War II. They were U-Boat hunters and took part in the Murmansk Run. In 1945, they captured the rest of the German Submarine Fleet in Norway and escorted 14 U-Boats back. He received five service medals and the Atlantic Star. After his discharge on January 3, 1946, he returned to Neepawa and established Thomas Cabinet Works with his brother, Jack. Roy married Betty Campbell in 1953 and they resided in Neepawa. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Roy passed away on April 2, 2013 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Lot 17, Block 2, Range 28. THOMSON, Harold William WWII Harold was born on March 5, 1914, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg on November 15, 1943 and served in Canada during World War II. Sergeant Harold Thomson was discharged on February 1, 1945. He was married to Avis Rouse. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Harold passed away on July 13, 2002. TURNER, Hugh Sutherland WWII Hugh was born in Neepawa, Manitoba on February 26, 1922. He enlisted in July 1942 with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He graduated as Navigator from Portage OAS on November 11, 1943. He was posted overseas on April 1, 1944. Following courses at AFU and OTO, he was posted to #10 Squadron 4 Group R.A.F. Melbourne Yorkshire. He transferred to Pathfinder Force Squadron #635 Downham Market Lincolnshire. He was repatriated to Canada on July 14, 1945 and was discharged in Winnipeg on September 20, 1945. Hugh was married to Jean Elliott and they farmed near Eden, north of Neepawa. He passed away on March 8, 2008 in Neepawa and was buried there at Riverside Cemetery.
