He enlisted in the Army and served with the Governor General’s Horse Guard in Italy during World War II. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. He worked in construction for various companies in many communities around Manitoba. He raised one son, Jack. Stanley was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Rathwell Branch 177 and in Brooklands, Winnipeg. Stanley passed away in 1989. SMITH, Harry Bernard WWII Harry was born in Birkenhead, England on March 15, 1902. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on December 19, 1939 and served in Newfoundland and in Canada until his discharge on September 11, 1945. He was married to Margaret. From 1967 to 1974, he served as the Mayor of Neepawa and was also president of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 from 1954 to 1955 and from 1961 to 1963. He was a member of Neepawa Branch 23 for 39 years from 1945 to 1974. Harry passed away on May 5, 1974. SNEESBY, Argyle Curtis WWII Argyle was born on February 12, 1926, to Albert and Jane Sneesby in Neepawa. He received his education at Winchester School, northeast of Arden. He enlisted with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada at the Fort Osborne Barracks in Winnipeg in the fall of 1944. He was stationed at Fort Garry, Shilo, Brandon and MacDonald. Argyle later transferred to the Royal Canadian Engineers and served as a Stationary Engineer in Angler, Ontario. He remained there until his discharge on August 20, 1946. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Argyle passed away on November 22, 2004 in Neepawa and was buried there at Riverside Cemetery.
