He enlisted in the army and served with the Royal Canadian Artillery in France, Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany during World War II. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal UK, France and Germany Star and Defence Medal. David worked for the CPR as a track foreman. He married Dot Smart and raised two boys and two girls while living in various towns around Manitoba. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 177 for 55 years. David passed away in 2001. SMART, Jack K. WWII Jack was born in Rathwell, Manitoba in 1925. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Fort Garry Horse Regiment Canadian Armoured Corps in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany during World War II. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-1945 Star and the War Medal 1939-1945. He married Annie Rolfe from Glenboro and raised one girl and two boys. He worked as a section foreman for the CPR. He was a five-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Glenboro. Jack passed away in 1962. SMART, Robert W. WWII Robert was born in Rathwell, Manitoba in 1917. He enlisted in the Army and served with 38th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery and 3rd Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery in France Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany during World War II. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal UK, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. He married Margaret Paterson, a war bride from Glasgow, Scotland. They farmed and raised four boys in Rathwell. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Rathwell Branch 177 for 46 years. Robert passed away in 1992.
