247 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca ROGERS, Douglas Martin “Doug” WWII Doug was born on March 21, 1921, to Sherman and Florence Rogers in Plumas, Manitoba. In 1928, his family moved to Carnduff, Saskatchewan where he attended school. By 1934, they had moved back to Manitoba and four years later, Doug and his brother, Ken, began farming in Arden, Manitoba. He enlisted in 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. There, Sergeant Douglas Rogers worked at a radar station at Sandspit on the Canadian West Coast, as well as other points. Doug received his wings as a wireless air gunner. The war ended before he was posted and he was discharged in 1945. In 1967, he married Grace Bray of Arden and together they farmed for many years on the Arden Ridge. Doug was very involved with a variety of community activities: pool elevator board, Coop implements, United Church and the Glenholm Cairn Committee. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Arden Branch 144. He and Grace later retired to Neepawa. Doug passed away on September 11, 2008 and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. SANGSTER, William H. WWII William was born in Neepawa on August 19, 1923. He enlisted in the Canadian Armoured Corps on March 20, 1943 and transferred to the Black Watch. He served in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe until he was discharged on May 7, 1946. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch. In 1949, he married Lilian Briese. William passed away on December 24, 1999. SCOTT, Donald James “Don” WWII Don was born on March 29, 1922, in Eden, Manitoba, the only son of Anna Mae Scott (Honeyman) and Robert Henry Scott. He was born on Pioneer Farm which was homesteaded by her father, Harry Honeyman, the first settler in 1877. He had two older sisters, Mildred and Muriel. At the age of eighteen, he joined the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and served in England and landed on Juno Beach on D-Day on June 6, 1944. He also served in Holland, Belgium, Germany and was wounded while serving in France. He married Dorothy Saunders in July 1943 and returned to Canada in May 1945. Rifleman Donald Scott was discharged on August 6, 1945. He farmed in Eden NW ½ 15-16-15. Their children were: Robert, Elizabeth, Peter, and David. Don and Dorothy continued to farm and in 1973, Robert and his family returned to join them, continuing to plant thousands of trees and practice land protection. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for 42 years from 1946 to 1988. Don died at the age of 66 in 1988. In 1994, Scott Farms received the Whitemud Conservation District Farm Award and also the Provincial Award.
