225 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca NICHOLSON, Stanley “Stan” WWI Stan was born on March 3, 1899, to Lucy and Fred Nicholson in Franklin, Manitoba. He received his education at the Franklin school. Stan enlisted on May 2, 1918, at the Minto Barracks in Winnipeg, Manitoba and served with 1st Depot Battalion, Infantry Division CEF in the United Kingdom and in France. Private Stanley Nicholson was discharged shortly after on August 23, 1918, due to demobilization. The war was over. He received the Victory Medal. After discharge on August 23, 1918 in Winnipeg, he returned home to Franklin and the farm. On April 10, 1929, he married Bertha McGillivray and they farmed in the Glendale district for many years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for nineteen years from 1945 to 1964. Stan passed away on July 15, 1964 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. NICHOLSON, William O. WWII William was born in the Rural Municipality of Langford on February 8, 1923. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg on June 8, 1942 and trained in Winnipeg, St. Thomas, and Dauphin. He served in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and Holland with Bomber Command, 410 Cougar Squadron, Mosquito Night Fighter during World War II. He was discharged in Winnipeg on April 25, 1946 and received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, France and Germany Star, and War Medal 1939-1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. William passed away on March 18, 1998. NORTH, Alfred James WWII Alfred was born in Pleasant Point, near Carberry, Manitoba on November 23, 1920. He enlisted in the Army on February 1, 1941 and served during World War II with the RCASC and RCOC in the United Kingdom, France and Belgium until his discharge on November 20, 1945. He was married to Winifred Seaborn. Alfred passed away on July 27, 1994.
