He was an Army Vehicle Technician and from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was posted to Shilo, Manitoba before returning to his hometown of Winnipeg where he now resides. His career highlights were training for Op NUNALIVUT 2018, as well as traveling across Canada. He competed at the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf, Germany in September 2023. His motivation for applying to the Invictus Games was finding new connections. “I wanted to meet and learn from people with similar experiences and the ‘never give up’ mindset. I really missed that one of a kind ‘tough love’ found only in the military community. I was eager to meet people who would challenge me to leave my comfort zone and help me to push through the mental barriers I had created for myself.” He participated in hand cycling, wheelchair basketball, and discus. MUNRO, Robert WWI Robert was born in Bottomhead, Baldernock, County of Stirlingshire, Scotland on November 13, 1891. He went overseas to France with the Winnipeg Grenadiers in 1916 where he was wounded to the head and returned to Canada. He was married to Gladys Bone of Hastings. Bob attempted to join for World War II five times but was told his carpentry skills were needed in Canada. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 and was president of the branch in 1938. MURRAY, Gerald McIntosh WWII Gerald was born on May 12, 1923, in Neepawa, Manitoba. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in November 1942 in Winnipeg. He was a navigator/bombardier on Lancaster Bombers. He took part in many missions during the war in France and Germany. He was discharged inWinnipeg in November 1946. Gerald received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, and France and Germany Star. On February 19, 1949, he married Sidoris Audrey June Harrison. He assumed the role of sales manager in Murray’s Garage in 1949. He purchased the business in 1964 upon the retirement of his father. Throughout his career as a General Motors dealer, he was a participating member of the Manitoba Motor Dealer’s Association and the Federated Automotive Dealers of Canada. Time Magazine named him Car Dealer of the Year. He was active in many local community organizations. His community involvement included: eight years as a Neepawa Town Councillor, chairman of the Yellowhead Centre board, active membership in the Neepawa Lion’s Club, The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for 44 years, the Neepawa Chamber of Commerce, the Neepawa and District United Church, the Neepawa Curling Club, the Neepawa Golf & Country Club, and the Murray Clan Association. Gerald passed away on September 1, 1992, in Neepawa.
