He taught school at Rossendale and Portage la Prairie before joining the armed service (Signal Corps) in 1935. He was discharged from the army in 1946 with the rank of Captain. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Manitoba in 1950. He taught in Rossburn until 1956 when he moved to Neepawa and taught in the Neepawa Area Collegiate until his retirement in 1973. He was married to Pat. Harold gave continuous service on the boards of the Neepawa United Church, including the choir and was a Boy Scout leader. In 1947, he became a member of the Masonic Order joining Assiniboine Lodge No. 7 Portage la Prairie and affiliated with the Neepawa Lodge No. 24 in 1958 and became Master of the Lodge in 1968. He was a member of the Board of General Purposes of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba and was active in the Rotary Club, Manitoba Teachers’ Society, and the Neepawa Chamber of Commerce. He was a supporter of the senior citizens’ work in the community and was serving on the boards of East View Lodge and theYellowhead Manor. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Harold passed away on April 7, 1980. MILLER, George Caesar Wollett WWII George was born in 1909 in Middlesex, London, England. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in the United Kingdom and in France during World War II. He was a prisoner of war in Dieppe. George passed away in 1995. MITCHELL, Albert BOERWAR Albert Mitchell was born approximately 1878 in Sheffield, England. He was the great grandfather, mother’s side, of Mike Ramsden, RCAF retired, Past President, Royal Canadian Legion, Woodworth, Kenton, MB. Albert fought in the Boer War in the infantry. The Queen’s South Africa Medal was awarded to all British led forces who served in South Africa from 11 October 1899 to the end of the war on 31 May 1902. He returned to England. Little is known other than Albert married and had a family. Albert’s granddaughter, Rose Ellen Mitchell, was Mike Ramsden’s mother. Details of Albert’s death are unknown. He is buried near Sheffield in England.
