165 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca JANZ, Edwin J. WWII Edwin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1919. He joined the Army and served in Canada and Britain during World War II. He was awarded the Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45. Edwin was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Souris Branch 60 for 42 years before he passed away in 1989. JURY, Albert John WWII Albert was born on July 18, 1919, to Fred and Alice Jury of Clanwilliam, Manitoba. He enlisted and served overseas with the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps and Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Sicily, Italy, Belgium and Holland. In November 1945, his mother received a letter and a citation from the department of defence which said: “in recognition of gallant and distinguished service”. Craftsman Albert Jury was discharged in Winnipeg on March 18, 1946. He married Thelma Graham on July 12, 1949 in Sebastian, South Dakota and they lived their life in Eden, Manitoba. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Albert passed away in 2003 and was buried in the Clanwilliam Cemetery. KAKOWCHYK, Michael WWII Michael was born in Kiev, Ukraine on September 2, 1912. He served in the army with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in the untied Kingdom, Italy, and northwest Europe during World War II. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23 for nineteen years. Michael passed away on June 30, 1973.
