He worked as a railroad watchman. On December 1, 1915, he enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Force and served with the 226th Overseas Battalion in England and France. George was with the 43rd Battalion in the Canadian Infantry (Manitoba Regiment) when he was killed in action on October 24, 1917, in Belgium. Private George Elliot was memorialized at Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial there (Panel 24-26-30), as well as on his parents’ gravestone at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. ELLIS, Edwin Raymond “Ed” WWII Ed was born on August 10, 1916, to John and Nina (Lamb) in Eriksdale, Manitoba. They moved to the Springhill district, north of Neepawa, in 1928. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps on April 24, 1941. Craftsman Edwin Ellis served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe. While in England, he met and married Brenda Bellingham on January 19, 1946 in Hove, Sussex. He received his discharge on April 9, 1946. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Ed used money from the Veterans Land Act to purchase land in the Langford Municipality. They farmed the land until 1975 when their son took over and they moved to Neepawa. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Ed passed away on February 27, 1994 and was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Lot 2, Block 12, Range 23. ELLIS, Gordon Howard WWII Gordon was born on November 13, 1926, to John and Nina (Lamb) Ellis, in Scotch Bay, on the shore of Lake Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in May 1944, at the age of seventeen and six months. AC2 Ellis was immediately put on leave without pay and was discharged in October 1944. Gordon then joined the Canadian Infantry Corps in November 1944 and trained at Fort Garry and Shilo. After the training, he was transferred to an underage battalion, the Pictou Highlanders, where he stayed for five months. Gordon was then returned to Fort Osborne Barracks and worked on discharging army personnel. Corporal Gordon Ellis was discharged in July 1946. He married Allison Watson in 1951 and they farmed for years at Cordova, just south of Neepawa. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Neepawa Branch 23. Gordon passed away on September 8, 2003 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Lot 20, Block 5, Range 27.
