He enlisted in the Army in December 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps overseas as a Lance Corporal from March 1942 until September 1945. He received the British Empire Medal from the King of England. A newspaper article described the award as follows: “British Empire Medal – Sergeant Albert Nicholas Durado of the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers was awarded the British Empire Medal for his work as a diesel mechanical engineer while serving in the armed forces. He served overseas from March 1942 until September 1945, and during this time he was in charge of the assembly line organization work on Hercules, Cummins, and G. M. -Twin-6 Diesel engines in Borden, England, reputed to be the largest Diesel repair depot in the world. One outstanding work was the design and centrifugal casting machine for Chevrolet connecting rods which considerably cut down on the time required for this operation and immensely improved the quality. This machine was then adopted by the war office as standard equipment. He was also responsible for ‘break in’ and dynamometer testing work on diesel equipment. Several improvements in jigs, machine tools and dies introduced by Sgt. Durado were adopted as standard methods of repair work at the Borden plant.” He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Transcona Branch 7. Albert died on August 1, 1992 and is buried in Field of Honour in Transcona Cemetery in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Row 10, Lot 234). EADIE, John William WWI Private John Eadie was born in Treherne, Manitoba on January 26, 1893. He enlisted in Winnipeg, Manitoba in December 1915 and served in France and Belgium with the 78th Battalion during World War I. His service number was 148571. He was discharged in Winnipeg in February 1918 receiving a Victory Medal. John and his wife Helen had four children: Jack, Nellie, Wilma, and James.
