99 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca DANN, Marvin Lloyd WWII Marvin was born on May 19, 1913, to Walter and Edna (Baxter) in Glenella, Manitoba. He married Hazel Saunders on March 11, 1936 and was living in Riding Mountain. Private Marvin Dann enlisted in July 1940 and served on the east coast of Canada. He farmed in Glenella for several years and then they moved to Brandon where he worked as a mechanic. They were still there in 1963. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Kelwood, Manitoba. Marvin passed away in 1968 in Calgary, Alberta and was buried in Queen’s Park Cemetery and Mausoleum in Calgary. DANN, Milton Robert WWII Milton was born on November 26, 1911, to Walter and Edna (Baxter) Dunn in Glenella. He married Isabel Henry on July 28, 1935 and they lived in Riding Mountain. Milton enlisted in the Army with the Winnipeg Grenadiers 1st Battalion on September 8, 1939 and served overseas in the Caribbean and in Hong Kong. With the surrender of the Hong Kong Garrison on December 25, 1941, Milton and the surviving members of the Canadian Hong Kong Force were interned as prisoners of war until liberation in September 1945. He spent the next two-and-a-half years convalescing in Deer Lodge and King George Hospitals in Winnipeg. Private Milton Dann received the 1939-1945 Star and Clasp, the Pacific Star and Hong Kong Bar, King George Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and the King George Service Medal. After his recovery, he went into the autobody profession until 1976 when he retired. He was a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Association of Canada and was also a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Kelwood, Manitoba. Milton passed away on October 5, 1996 and was buried in the Riding Mountain Cemetery. DANN, Wilbert Elwyn “Bert” WWII Bert was born on February 20, 1920, to Walter and Edna (Baxter) Dann. He stayed in Glenella until 1936 when he moved to Riding Mountain to live with his brother Milton and his sister-in-law. Private Wilbert Dann enlisted with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and spent the next five years and eight months serving with the First Division. After the war, he enrolled in an autobody course in Winnipeg and spent the next few years working for different shops. In July 1952, he married Elsie Henry and they started an autobody shop at J.L. Henry’s garage. In 1959, they built their own ship, Dann’s Autobody. Bert passed away on August 2, 1989.
