47 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BRATTON, Robert Stewart “Bob” WWII Bob was born on September 12, 1917, in Manson, MB. Prior to enlisting, he was a farm labourer in the Willen, Manitoba area, grade 8 graduate. His father was WilliamWallis Bratton, and he had three brothers and one sister. His sports included hunting, hockey and baseball. He enlisted on May 31, 1940, in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was attached to the Royal Canadian Artillery, Training Centre, as a gunner. He embarked from Halifax to England in January 1941. He was overseas for 53 months, served with the 1st Canadian Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, and later with the 2nd Canadian Infantry Regiment, Anti-Tank Company. He was located in Italy for eighteen months, France, Holland, Belgium and Germany for five months, with the balance of that time in Great Britain. His medals include the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, War Medal 1939-1945, and the Thank-you Canada (1995) Holland Liberation Medal. He was honourably discharged on September 21, 1945. He married Kathleen Howard of Miniota, Manitoba in 1946. He passed away on April 2, 1964, of natural causes in Wawota, Saskatchewan. His descendants are a son, John (Beth) Bratton of Moosomin, Saskatchewan, two grandsons, one granddaughter and seven great-grandchildren. BRAUN, Clarence Martin “Martin” WWII Clarence was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, 1920 April 05. 4 brothers and 4 sisters, raised on the family farm, Lake Lenore, SK. Following high school, he met the love of his life, Josephine (Josie) Bregenser, Pilger, SK. Enlisting Jan 10, 1942, Gunner RCHA, training in Regina and Ottawa, he embarked overseas 1943, serving England through France-Germany. He received medals, Volunteer with clasp, Defence, War, and France Germany Star. Returning home post war, treated duty paralysis Deer Lodge Hospital Winnipeg, Martin was discharged March 26, 1946. Josie and Martin married June 1, 1947, Pilger, SK. They raised three daughters and one son, in Saskatchewan, then Oak Lake, MB, 1954, where Martin worked as a mechanic. Moving to nearby Kenton, MB, in 1959 he continued as mechanic and parts sales, there with Lawlor and Strange. 1977 he became Kenton Post Master. Retirement from 1985, they lived Kenton, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg, near children, grandchildren. Martin loved life especially family, fishing, and his Legion. Predeceased by daughter Dianna (Velda and Betty Lou remain), and son Ron, Martin (2015) and Josie (2019) rest in Greenacres Niche, Winnipeg. BROCK, Lester Wesley WWII Lester was born in Kenora, Ontario on June 11, 1903. He enlisted in the Air Force on February 4, 1941 in Winnipeg. He served with the #14 SFTS in Canada during World War II. His service number was 91797. Sergeant Lester Brock was discharged on May 14, 1946 in Quebec. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Lester had two daughters, Dianne and Barbara.
