37 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BORSTEAD, Harold Kenneth WWI Harold was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, USA on December 10, 1900. He enlisted in Saskatoon in January 1915 and served in England, France and Belgium with 53rd Battalion, 14th Battalion, 1st CMGB during World War I. His service number was 440659. Corporal Borstead was discharged in Quebec in April 1919. BOULTON, Gordon R. WWII Gordon was born in Morden, Manitoba, in 1919. He joined the Canadian Army where he was involved with recruitment duties across Canada. After an honourable discharge in December 1941, he went to Vancouver, where he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force-R143425 as AC2 and trained for the Commonwealth Air Crew Training program where he got his Wireless Air Gunner Wings as well as becoming a Flight Sergeant on December 24, 1942. He met his wife-to-be while training in Calgary in 1942, and became engaged on December 12 of that same year. In England, he became active with the 407th Squadron and moved to several places throughout England flying the Wellington Bombers and patrolling the North Sea and the Bay of Biscay. Gordon was decommissioned with honourable discharge on September 26, 1945. He was awarded medals and badges such as W.A.G. Operations Badge, 19391945 Star, Atlantic Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Maple Leaf Bar, and King George War Medal 1939-1945. Gordon passed away in 1999 and was a Life Member of the Miami Branch 88 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BOUTET, Charles J. WWII Charles was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on October 26, 1920. He enlisted with the Canadian Army on September 27, 1940, in Winnipeg at the age of nineteen. He left Halifax for England on October 9, 1941, and served overseas with the Royal Army Service Corps and then transferred to the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and then to the Royal Canadian Engineers. In England, he received training with the Command Quarters Canterbury Technical Training Group. His regiment was the 14th Field Company, CA CMF and was classified as a Private and employed as a Sapper. Charles served in England, France, Italy and Germany. He married Barbara Anne Stovald of Guilford Surry, England, on November 11, 1944. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, issued three Red Chevrons, five Red Service Chevrons, Italy Star, Defence Medal, and France and Germany Medal. He was discharged in February 1946, and passed away on August 19, 1995, after a valiant battle with cancer. His wife, Barbara, belonged to the Ladies Legion Auxiliary until her passing in April 2005. Charles had been a member of Roseau Valley Branch 160 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 41 years.
