263 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca ZROBOK, Nestor “Casey” WWII Nestor was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1920 and joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in Port Arthur, Ontario. He was serving on HMCS Charlottetown when it was torpedoed and sunk near Cap Chat, QC on September 11, 1942 by the German U-boat, U-517. The Captain and eight crew members went down with the ship but Nestor was one of the fortunate survivors. He then served on HMCS Provider, patrolling the waters off Hamilton, Bermuda until the end of hostilities. Casey passed away in 2001 and had been a member of the Kenora Branch 12 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 45 years. ZUBRISKI, Frank WWII Private Frank Zubriski enlisted in the Army in February 1943 and served with 3 Coy, 14 Platoon, 100 CA(B)TC in Canada. Frank accidentally drowned on July 10, 1943 and is buried in Shorncliffe Cemetery in Manitoba. His service number was H-1950. ZWARICH, Fred WWII Private Fred Zwarich was born in Fork River, Manitoba on January 11, 1922. He enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg and served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Canada, the United Kingdom, Italy and Europe during World War II. He was discharged in Winnipeg on November 24, 1945. His service number was H-4322. Fred was married to Nettie.
