257 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca WINRAM, Hartley McTavish “Buzz” WWII Buzz was born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba. In 1939, he joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers, served in Jamaica for eighteen months then in 1941, was sent to Hong Kong where the Grenadiers became POWs of the Japanese. After four years of torture and starvation in prison, Buzz was liberated and spent six weeks in a Vancouver hospital before going home. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal 19391945, 1939-1945 Star, the Pacific Star and the Canadian Centennial Medal (1967). Buzz was District Commander for ten years and Honorary President of The Royal Canadian Legion Cartwright-Mather Branch 86 for a number of years and received the Legion Order of Merit. He passed away in October 1977 after suffering tremendous health problems from his years in prison. WONG, Ted WWII Sergeant Ted Wong was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on March 10, 1920. He enlisted in the Air Force in Vancouver on September 15, 1943 and served in the Pacific with Force 136 S.E.A. during World War II. He was discharged in Vancouver in June 1946. His service number was K-7425. Ted received the 1945 Volunteer Medal and Clasp and the Burma Star. He was married to Lorna. WOOD, Pat Esrum WWII Private Pat Wood was born in Winnipeg on May 1, 1922. He enlisted in the C.A.A. Medical Corps in Trail, British Columbia on January 22, 1943 and served in Canada during World War II. He was discharged in Winnipeg on March 22, 1946. His service number was K-49663.
