255 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca WILSON, Robert M. WWI &WWII Robert was born in Gladstone, Manitoba, in 1898. He joined the 13th Field Ambulance in World War I and the Reserve 76th Field Artillery RCA Saskatchewan in World War II, serving in France and England. He received the Military Medal. His World War I uniform, war medals, Army watch, bible and war diary are all on display at the Gladstone Museum. Robert passed away in 1984 after having been a member of Gladstone Branch 110 of The Royal Canadian Legion for many years. WILSON, Robert Osborne “R.O.”“Bob” WWII Flight Sargent Robert O. Wilson, known as “R.O”. or “Bob”, was born on the King farm, McConnell, MB on November 4, 1925. After completing grade 11 in Hamiota, MB, he enlisted RCAF in Winnipeg July 20, 1943, at 17 ½ years of age, with assurance of parents’ consent. After completing Aircrew Training School for Bombers, he departed Halifax, arriving in England August 10, 1944. (Father John Wilson, also WWII this Volume) Bob was on flight crew Avro Lancaster based Bottesford, England. Returning to Canada June 21, 1945, R.O. was discharged September 17, 1945. He received medals Volunteer Service with clasp, WWII medal and star, Defense, Victory Europe, and Air Bomber Badge. Bob studied Agriculture at the University of Manitoba, then started a mixed grain farm in McConnell area with VLA farm loan. He married Irene Martha Fraser in fall of 1951. They raised 3 sons and a daughter. R.O. was predeceased by his wife in 2007, himself passing in 2018. Both are buried in Hamiota Cemetery. WILSON, William C. “Bill” WWII Bill, son of Humphrey and Madeline (Stewart) Wilson, was born in Neelin, Manitoba in 1908 on a farm settled by the Wilson family in 1886. He joined the #3 Provost Corps as a member of the Military Police and made many train trips to escort prisoners but was discharged early as his help was needed on the farm. Many family reunions took place on the family homestead and Bill also enjoyed traveling to action sales, gathering antiques and selling them. He passed away in the Killarney Hospital on March 10, 1994, leaving behind Linda (Jerry) and family along with Laurie (Sandy) and family.
