253 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca WILSON, John Osborne “J.O.” WWII Sargent Wilson, known as “J.O.”, born in Baldur, MB, March 15, 1900, graduated Virden (MB) Collegiate, then Normal School in Moosomin, SK, B.A. University of Manitoba, and M.A. correspondence courses Chicago University. He was a Teacher and Principal in numerous schools 1923 to 1941, starting McConnell, MB, where he met his future wife Viola Ruth King. They married in December 1924, raising 2 sons (Robert, RCAF this volume) and a daughter. J.O. as he was known, enlisted RCAF Winnipeg June 6, 1941. He trained as an Armourer, then posted to C.F.B. Suffield, AB, for 2 years as chemical warfare instructor and N.C.O. in charge of maintenance. Following overseas to Yorkshire England, he added instruction on bombing. Upon discharge 1945, November 29, J.O. continued career as teacher and principal in Manitoba. His medals were Volunteer Service with clasp, WWII medal and star, Defense, Victory Europe. He was very active in Brandon, MB RC Legion and Military Cadet program, before passing away on August 3, 1972. He’s buried in Veterans’ section Brandon Municipal Cemetery. WILSON, Leonard William WWII Sergeant Leonard William was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan on February 6, 1912. He enlisted in the Army in Regina on January 5, 1940 and served with the 16 22nd C.A.A. in Canada during World War II. He was discharged in Regina on September 16, 1944. His service number was L-84106. Leonard received the Service Medal. He and his wife Adelaide had three children: Fay, William and Joyce. WILSON, Robert George WWII Robert enlisted in the Navy on March 2, 1943 and served as an Ordinary Seaman with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve on HMCS Naden in Canada and on the High Seas during World War II. He was discharged in December 1945. His service number was V-55851.
