23 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BARLOW, William WWI William was born in England in 1886 and immigrated to Souris, Manitoba, in 1912 to work on farms. In December 1914, he volunteered for the Canadian Army. In March 1916, he was posted overseas to England with the 45th Manitoba Battalion Grenadiers. In June 1916, William transferred to the 1st Canadian Mounted Rifles encamped near Ypres. He was killed in action on the Somme in August 1916, and is buried at Railway Dugouts Burial Ground, Zillebeke, Belgium, near Ypres. BARR, Henry WWI Henry was born in Scotland in 1894. He served for three years with the 79th Cameron Highlanders in Winnipeg before joining the 52nd Infantry Battalion, serving in Canada, England and France. While living in California in the 1930’s, he was very active in the Canadian Legion Hollywood post. Henry passed away in 1941, and is buried in the Veterans’ section of the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg, Manitoba. BARRIE, James M. WWII & PEACETIME James was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1924. He joined the RCOC and RCEME, serving in England, Europe, and UN Forces in Egypt. He passed away in 2008 and was a member of the Fort Garry Branch 90 of the Royal Canadian Legion for twenty years.
