Following High School, Frank joined RCAF, Moose Jaw, SK, as 17-year-old, 1941. Brother and father were both active WWII overseas. Frank served in Canada, mother’s request, receiving Volunteer, Defense, and WWII medal and star, before post war England. Returning to Canada, Frank, Rivers, MB RCAF, met Ethel Curtis of Kenton, MB. Ethel completed RN. They married in 1953. Following RCAF Saskatoon, Frank served Germany, Cold Lake, AB, Ottawa then Downsview, ON before retiring to Penticton, BC, 1973. Sons John (This Volume 14), and Rob served in RCMP and Calgary City Police. Their two daughters were Sandra and Shelley. Frank retired to Penticton, B.C., 1973, later moving to Kenton, MB. Frank, active Legion member, last Kenton, MB. taught cadets and played, coached, was spectator in all sports including hockey, baseball, curling, with hobbies fishing, duck hunting, gardening, orcharding, and dancing. Following a stroke, Frank passed away in 1992, buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Kenton. John and Sandra have since deceased, while Ethel lives in Penticton. SNAPE, John Alan RCMP & Calgary City Police John followed father, Frank, RCAF, (this volume 14) in patriotic service. 2023 is RCMP 150th year. John, born Zweibrucken, Germany, RCAF base, 1956 April 13, had 1 brother, Robert, Calgary City Police vet, 2 sisters. After attending school in various military bases, he graduated high school, Penticton, B.C. 1974. Following construction work, he joined R.C.M.P. 1975, serving in E. Division, B.C., then transferring to the Calgary City Police. In 1988 John switched careers, Life Insurance and Financial Planning. He married Carol McKinney, Unity SK., then delivered one of their 2 daughters enroute to the hospital in Calgary. He remarried Corinne Drul, Yorkton, SK., being blessed with 3 daughters. John played all sports, including hockey, baseball, curling, and had a passion for fishing and farming. His daughters are accomplished athletes including Olympic Volleyball team and triathlons. John succumbed to cancer 2011 September 16, and is buried at the Greenwood Cemetery, Kenton, MB. next to his father and sister Sandra. He is survived by Carol, Corrine, their daughters, brother Rob, sister Shelley, and Mother Ethel. SOPP, Albert Walter WWI Albert was born in Hayfield, Manitoba, on February 5, 1892, the fourth son of Harry and Martha (Bennett) Sopp. He enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on January 9, 1916. Before leaving for overseas, Albert left his two prized possessions, which were his horse and his rifle to his brother Ron and sister-in-law Ina. He served with the 44th Battalion, New Brunswick Regiment in Canada and France. He was killed in action on June 6, 1917, in France and is buried in the Lapugnoy Military Cemetery in Pas-de-Calais, France. Albert was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
