He passed away in 2000, and had been a member of Fort Garry Branch 90 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 49 years. PEARCE, Gordon R. “Cheerio” WWII Gordon was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1919. He joined the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and served in England and Western Europe. He was killed in action in 1946 and is commemorated at Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, England. Gordon drowned returning to England. Pearce Island (53K/14) in Kenyon Lake was named after him in 1995. PETERS, Paul V. WWI Paul was born on Prince Edward Island in 1894. He served in the Army with the 212 Battalion and 97th Battalion during World War I.
