He enlisted with the Canadian Army in Port Arthur in 1941, left for England in August 1942 and was with the 52nd Battalion of the Lake Superior Regiment in Europe. René was not seriously wounded when the truck he was driving hit a line mine but two guards were killed. He also later guarded the infamous S.S. General Kurt Meyers before his trial for war crimes. Back in Canada in 1946, he was discharged, returned to St. George and married Annette Coulombe in 1947. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, War Medal 19391945 and the Normandy Medal. René died on December 27, 2004. PARKER, Edward V. WWII Edward enlisted in the Navy and served as a Leading Seaman with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in Canada on HMCS Bayfield. His service number was V-24596. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Flin Flon Branch 73. PARKER, Richard W. WWII Richard was born in Hanna, North Dakota, USA in 1914. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Winnipeg in October 1942 and served as a Sergeant in Canada during World War II. He was discharged from service in Winnipeg in October 1945. His service number was R-186965. Richard was a one-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Flin Flon Branch 73.
