175 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca MOORE, Warren Thomas “Tom” WWII Tom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1920. He joined the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders in Winnipeg and received his infantry training in Shilo, MB, before heading overseas to England. Once there, Tom decided to change regiments to the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps driving an Army supply truck. His duties took him to Italy, where he was in the same convoy as his brother, Bruce. Unfortunately, he contracted malaria and became ill and spent a month in an Italian Hospital, then to London and finally returning home to Keyes, Manitoba, in the fall of 1945. Warren was married and started a family in Gladstone, MB. He was a great carpenter and helped move the old Legion Hall into its Gladstone location. He later moved to Dryden, Ontario, where he died in 1951, at the early age of 31. MURRAY, Donald L. H. WWII Donald was born in Lyleton, Manitoba, on September 18, 1920. He enlisted on November 19, 1941, with the “Iroquois” Squadron #431, training in Brandon, Caronport, MacLeod, Regina, and graduated with wings at Dauphin in November 1942. He went overseas to Britain in December 1942, and commenced operations in October 1943, then posted to Italy in March 1944, and back to Britain to his #431 Squadron, where he flew Lancaster Bombers and completed his tour. Don was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in July 1945, and his Investiture was held in Winnipeg at the Legislative Building in February 1947. Flight Lieutenant Donald L. H. Murray passed away on October 16, 1979, of a massive heart attack. He was a member of Melita Branch and Brandon Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion. MURRAY, Wellington F. WWII Wellington was born in Boissevain, Manitoba, in 1923. He joined the #7 A.O.S. in Portage la Prairie, serving in Canada. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.Wellington passed away in 2006, and was a member of Lawrence Branch 87 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
