159 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca LAWLOR, Clarence Raymond “Jack” WWII Clarence, aka Jack Lawlor was born Kenton, Manitoba, 1920 July 02, parents Leander (Lea) and Jessie (nee Ingram) from nearby Oakner, MB, having 4 brothers and 3 sisters, (brother Jim, WWII RCAF in this volume). Jack schooled in Kenton and worked his father’s garage, before enlisting Canadian Army RCHA, WWII. He trained in Manitoba, Ft. Osborne, Ft. Garry, Portage, Camp Shilo, and in Saskatchewan, before his medical discharge in 1941. Medals/Star included Volunteer, Defence, WWII. Jack married Doreen Bastard (brother Milford, WWII, in this volume) of nearby Harding, Manitoba. They raised 4 daughters, while Jack took over his father’s garage, then partnered with Burt Strange, operating Lawlor and Strange garage, and Dodge Chrysler dealership. Jack played local sports, especially baseball, hockey, and curling. He and family were active community members, including church, and he as a member of Royal Canadian Legion branch 118, Kenton. Jack, passing 2006 March 25, is buried in Greenwood Cemetery near Kenton. He is survived by wife Doreen, daughters Marcia, Sally, Teresa, and Shannon, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. LAWLOR, James Robert “Jim” WWII Jim Lawlor was born in Kenton, Manitoba, 1918 April 03, parents Leander (Lea) and Jessie (nee Ingram) from nearby Oakner, MB. He had 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Brother Clarence, aka Jack, WWII, is in this volume. Jim attended school in Kenton, played sports especially hockey, baseball, and curling, and worked in his father’s garage. Jim enlisted in R.C.A.F., rising to Commission, Flight Officer. Including with 233 Squadron, F.O. Lawlor, flew Wellingtons bombing Axis fjords Norway 1941, Gibraltar Malta convoy protection 1942, Lancasters for Dam busting 1943, and ferried 24 trips Lancasters, Halifax, Canada, to Prestwich, Scotland 1944. Aug 44 Jim was granted leave release from R.C.A.F. to train for Trans Canada Airlines. While training for TCA, Gimli, MB., Jim was killed 1944 October 27. His wife Betty (nee Macdonald from Virden, MB.), gave birth son James (Jimmy), now of Australia and/or New Zealand, born 1944 Nov. 06. Jim’s medal/stars included Volunteer with clasp, WWII, Defence, and 1939-45 star. Jim is buried in Greenwood Cemetery near Kenton, Manitoba. LAYCOCK, George A. WWII George was born in Foxwarren, Manitoba, in 1901. He joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, serving in England, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He passed away in 1969 and was a member of Lawrence Branch 87 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
