121 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca EVANS, Herbert J. WWI Herbert was born in Tregony, Cornwall, United Kingdom, in 1877. He signed up in the Army in August 1914, in Regina, Saskatchewan, with brothers Harold and Alan. He served with the 68th Battalion and 48th Battalion in France during World War I. Private Herbert Evans was wounded twice while serving in France in September 1916 and August 1917. He returned to Canada in February 1918, was discharged in March 1918, and was decorated with two gold bars. He returned to farming in Beulah, Manitoba. Herbert passed away in 1920 and is buried in Beulah Community Cemetery. He is named on the Honour Roll of The Royal Canadian Legion Miniota Branch 66 in Beulah. EYRES, Christopher WWII & PEACETIME Christopher was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1917. He was part of Lord Strathcona’s Horse Regiment and Canadian Army Occupation serving in Canada, England, Italy, Northwest Europe, Germany, Lebanon and Palestine. Christopher was selected for officer training and graduated in May 1944 from Armoured Officer Training Unit Royal Academy. He held on to many posts during his career in the military. Christopher passed away in 2008, and had been a member of Fort Garry Branch 90 of The Royal Canadian Legion for fifteen years. FARGEY, Walter “Harry” WWII Harry was born in La Rivière, Manitoba in 1910. While at the University of Manitoba, he was involved with soccer and the hockey team and later graduated as a civil engineer in 1937. He then worked at the Sherridon Mines before enlisting in 1941 with the Royal Canadian Artillery. He rose to Lieutenant before going overseas in 1942. He was killed in action in Holland in 1945.
