109 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca DOW, Roy WWII Roy was born in Bethany, Manitoba on December 24, 1915, to John and Charlotte Dow. He received his education there and was married to Miss Betty Leonard of Bethany on July 29, 1937. Prior to enlisting in the Armoured Corps, in June 1943, Roy was employed with the Hudson’s Bay Smelting Works in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Roy went overseas in June 1944 and, while attached to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, was killed in action on the Western Front, in Holland, on February 21, 1945. He was buried in a Canadian Military Cemetery in the small village of Bedburg, and later was moved to the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in Groesbeek, the Netherlands. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, 1939-1945 Star, Defence Medal, France and Germany Star, and War Medal 1939-1945. DRECHSLER, William John WWII Private William Drechsler enlisted in the Army in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 22, 1944. He served as a Parachutist with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion in Germany, France, Belgium and Holland during World War II. His service number was H-22467. He was discharged on April 9, 1946. William and his wife Mary had one son Alfred. DRYSDALE, Robert H. WWII Robert enlisted in the Army in Flin Flon on June 25, 1941 and served as a driver with the 5th RCASC, Canadian Armed Division. He served overseas in Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. His service number was H-65529. Robert was married to Ivy.
