57 The Royal Canadian Legion MANITOBA & NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO COMMAND www.mbnwo.ca BROWN, Armand Joseph WWII Armand was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on July 12, 1922. He enlisted in the Navy in Saskatoon on September 30, 1942. He served on the North Atlantic and overseas during World War II until his discharge on September 19, 1945 in Saskatoon. He was married to Winnifred. Armand had lost his hearing in action. BROWN, Arthur J. “Art” WWII Art was born in the Oakland Municipality, Manitoba in 1910. He enlisted in 1941 and was posted to Osborne Barracks, Winnipeg and then to Kingston and Barriefield Camp, Ontario. He went overseas in 1943. He spent a few weeks at Aldershot and then to Camp Borden where he instructed soldiers on tanks, e.g. removing engines, transmissions, final drives and tracks then out on the compound for a week of driving and doing anticipated troubles in the field. Art reached the rank of Sergeant during this time and was discharged in 1945. He was responsible for the formation of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Wawanesa and was the founding President. He continued to be a member until the Branch was disbanded in the late 1990’s. Art passed away in 2003. BROWNIE, Jim WWII Jim enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in January 1941 and earned his wings at Yorkton in February 1942. He was killed when two training planes collided in Ontario in 1943. He was buried in Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg. He left behind his wife Margaret. Jim was 26 years old.
