He served as a Trooper in World War II with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons in England, France and Holland. He has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Flin Flon Branch 73. BERRY, John L. WWII John Berry was born in Myrtle, Manitoba in 1922. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 3, 1942 in Winnipeg, MB, Manning Depot was in Brandon and Souris, MB. John became an air gunner, first training base for gunnery training was Trenton, ON where the ground course was taught. His next stop was in MacDonald, MB for gunnery training in the air. He embarked in New York on October 8, 1943, disembarking in the United Kingdom on October 16. Number 23 Operational Training Unit at Pershore would be John’s first UK posting. Training on four engine heavy bombers at Dishforth would be John’s last training stop and there he was taken on as a mid-upper gunner. John flew operationally from Skipton-on-Swale in North Yorkshire with 424 Squadron. His third mission was to Nuremberg on March 30/31, 1944. On this mission, Halifax LV944 was shot down and crashed in Falkenstein, Germany, where all aircrew were killed. BERUK, Natalie WWII Natalie was born in Poland in 1925. She served in World War II with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Canada. Natalie has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Flin Flon Branch 73.
