He served in Continental Europe during World War II with the Winnipeg Rifles. He was a Private and a rifleman. Ernest received the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Ernest has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brandon Branch 3. His wife is Helen Spiess. SPIESS, Theodore H. WWII Theodore was born in Dropmore, Manitoba in January 1914. He served as a private with the Calgary Highlanders during World War II. He served in Belgium where he was wounded and spent a long time in Deer Lodge in Winnipeg. Theodore was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Brandon Branch 3 for 66 years. He passed away on September 3, 2011. STACY, Jack Steven WWII Jack was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1925. He was with the Royal Canadian Air Force from October 1943 until September 11, 1945. World War II was supposed to be the war that ended all wars and he remembered his discharge date when the destruction of the twin towers in New York started global strife all over again. During Jack’s short time in the service he survived a plane crash during training and since he was not injured, he was immediately put on another training flight before the fright of it really set in. Jack was stationed to Eastmoor in Yorkshire, England and flew mainly night raids, as a mid-upper air gunner in Halifax bombers over Germany. His plane was forced down over Heligoland, and once again resulting in no injuries.When victory in Europe was declared, Jack volunteered for service in the war against Japan, but the war also ended before he could get involved. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 3 for 45 years. Jack passed away in 2009.
